When you plan to buy a handy Bluetooth speaker for camping, you come across a plethora of sophisticated speakers to select from. There are multiple renowned brands available but not all can meet your desires or requirements especially if you’re looking for a travel-friendly Bluetooth speaker. But before we move to select the best budget Bluetooth Speaker, I want you to understand why you should have one with you even if you’re not a frequent camper or traveler like me.
Why Buy Bluetooth Speakers?
There’s a constant struggle in deciding over and buying music gadgets but when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, it is even tougher. In this section, I’ll put forward all the benefits attached to using speakers via Bluetooth.
- The ease of listening to music or podcasts anywhere, connected to a distant device is mind-blowing. You can’t always carry the whole system together and cannot even use headphones when partying with friends, cooking, cleaning out the backyard, or grilling at a campsite.
- Since Bluetooth speakers require no installation or restricted technical aspects, it’s very handy to just pair it and keep rolling anywhere with anyone. You’re connected on purpose while being wireless and mobile. No hassle around cabling, adapters, input sockets, etc.
- Imagine the money it saves. If one can’t afford to buy a full-scale sound system, a good Bluetooth speaker easily fills the void. Whether you pair it up with your TV, laptop, or to your mobile devices, you can feel and enjoy the same music as any surround sound system.
- It doesn’t only offer a great variety of look and feel but pricing and portability options too. With a heavily priced or expensive surround sound system, people often get stuck with it for years. With Bluetooth speakers, you can change it often as per your needs or can enjoy a collection, each for a dedicated purpose.
- Bluetooth speakers don’t ask you for any high-end technical knowledge. People who aren’t tech-savvy and have no technical background can use it to its maximum utilization. All it requires is a plug and play charging and button operation.
In my experience and opinion, Bluetooth Speakers are best for frequent travelers, bikers, campers, backpackers, RV life, or for anyone who likes to engage with audio-books, podcasts, or music on the go.
Top 10 Bluetooth Speaker for Camping Comparison
In this blog, I’ve listed the 10 best Bluetooth speakers that are suitable to carry to camping, RVing, or any outdoor expedition. My list may or may not resonate with all the gadget lovers but as I said in my earlier blogs that I write about my experiences especially during my camping trips.
1. JBL FLIP 4 – Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
The brand JBL has been in the industry for quite some time and is known for its good performance. However, JBL FLIP 4 is a new addition to the brand’s product line after JBL FLIP 3. Flip 4 is an improved version with a built-in 3000mAh rechargeable li-ion battery which enables the speaker to function up to 12 hours whereas, if you try using it on its maximum volume, it fails within 5 hours. For 12 hours stretch, use it on low to medium volume. It can connect wirelessly to 2 devices to the speakers and can take turns in playing the high-quality stereo sound.
When it comes to portability, JBL FLIP 4 is a safe pick, easy and light to carry anywhere in the world. Also, when you’re outdoors you can’t predict the spilling or rain. It can be anywhere at any time so make sure your Bluetooth speakers are waterproof so it can survive any water contact. As far as JBL FLIP 4 is concerned, it is Ipx7 waterproof and can be fully submerged in water. With its dual external passive radiator, you can enjoy quality music at its best. And if you want to throw a big party, FLIP 4 embeds with JBL connect+ which enables you to link it to more than 100 JBL connect+ enabled speakers making it a super amplified party with all the music you need.

With an Ipx7 rating, it is 100% waterproof and could be used in any weather condition. One thing that I didn’t like much is its short playtime. It has a maximum of 6 hours stretch on low to medium volume with a rechargeable battery and wireless Bluetooth pairing. The wireless Bluetooth pairing with the voice prompts enables you to take calls from a distance, access your phone’s virtual assistant. It can also pair two SoundLink speakers together for party mode or stereo mode or use Bose SimpleSync technology to pair with a member of the Bose Smart Home Family to play in sync. Just to test the claims, I tried accessing Google Assistant while it was submerged in water but couldn’t get through it. I tested the same while it was out of the water and guess what? It worked well and the microphone registered the voices effectively for the respective virtual assistant.

4. OontZ Angle 3 (3rd Gen) – Bluetooth Portable Speaker
This uniquely designed, high-quality stereo sound Bluetooth speaker is popular for its sound clarity, dual precision acoustic stereo drivers, and its proprietary passive bass radiators. What excites me, even more, is its thoughtfully designed triangular body with the downward-facing bass radiator which not only enhances the sound output but the powerful volume remains undistorted. It has a volume booster 10+ watt power AMP which enables louder, clearer, and crispier sound to your outdoor fun.
With an amazing frequency bracket of 100 feet and advanced antenna design with Bluetooth 4.2, it enables you to enjoy uninterrupted music or calls within a greater wireless range of 100 feet. Moreover, it easily connects with a variety of devices like the Echo Dot, Echo Dot 3rd Gen, Echo, Echo Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPad, Samsung Galaxy 8, Samsung Galaxy 9, Samsung Note, Smartphone, Cellphone, Laptop, computer, Mac, and all many other Bluetooth devices.
With an IPX5 rating, it ensures that it is water-resistant and can survive a spray or a splash of water but cannot function in or after being submerged fully or partially in the water. Thus, you can fearlessly use it in moist weather, light drizzling, or in your kitchen.
When it comes to its battery life, it didn’t appeal to me much as it is just 14 hours on low to medium volume and if you want to engage it with high volume, it won’t stretch above 8 hours. However, the good part is, it comes equipped with an aux-in jack which allows it to connect to a TV or any non-Bluetooth device through a 3.5mm line-In cable and become a perfect line-in speaker. Simply put, it’s not the kind of speaker that you will buy for the best audio quality and accuracy, but for the right price. For someone like me who’s a gadget freak and emphasize small details, I won’t place OontZ Angle 3 (3rd Gen) in my priority list but if I have to engage it for the value it brings in this small price, I appreciate the overall construction, sound quality, and features.

If you look at its compact rugged body with a soft silicon exterior, you will fall in love with it without even trying it.

The Bose SoundLink Revolve comes from a category of bigger speakers and is great for the RV life. It has a 360-degree speaker and allows you to pair it up with another speaker for a real surround sound stereo. The best part is that it offers a battery life of up to 12 hours and performs great at medium volume. So, if you’re looking for a true surround sound experience for your RV, Bose SoundLink Revolves outshines with its uninterrupted audio output, sound quality, and immersive high-definition bass.
One thing that bothers me when I’m using the Bose SoundLink Revolve is the continuous watch it demands. Since its IPX rating is 4, it depicts that it’s not waterproofed or moist-friendly and will not survive water splashes or spills, submerging is not even in the count. This is why, I prefer keeping it away from pool parties, or camping trip in the rainy season. The built-in microphone offers easy access to virtual assistants like Google, Siri, etc. and you can also take calls with a wireless range of over 30 feet
The Revolve has a microphone and will let you talk to Siri or Google Now through it. With an AUX input, it enables you to plug and play music directly from your phone and not just your phone but from your TV, laptop or desktop. All it requires is a 3.5mm headphone jack.

With its IPX7 rating, it can easily survive water splashes, spills and can also be submerged into the water without having any functional failure. It can easily survive a dip of around 1 meter underwater and remain submerged in the water for 30 mins. So, if it accidentally falls into the water while you’re enjoying it with friends and family, you don’t see your money going to waste. And since it keeps me free of mind of any constant watch over the device, I loved the overall experience. I used it in the rainy season at a campsite, and during my deep-sea fishing trip, it worked effortlessly throughout the time.
The best part is that if you like to extend the sound experience, you can wirelessly connect this small powerful speaker to two UE WONDERBOOM and enjoy the show. The added feature is that it is a Bluetooth Smart enabled device that easily syncs with other smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
One thing surprised me even more because as much as it looks small, the performance is great. It offers enhanced bass with crisp and clear 360-degree sound. The best part is its portability with a string loop at the top, it fits in anywhere in the luggage or can be tied to anything to carry it anywhere without any difficulty. Also, it has big visible buttons which makes the operation extremely easy and quick.
Let’s not forget about its wonderful battery life. It works for over 10 to 13 hours on a single charge at low to medium volume and stretches up to 7 hours on a high-volume at 86 dBC usage.

9. Tribit XSound Go Bluetooth Speakers
By looks, built and body, there’s nothing better than Tribit XSound Go. The curved edges twined with a matte finish modern touch and the sophisticated alignment of buttons will leave you awestruck. When makes it even better and classier is its waterproofing expertise. So, whether you use it near the pool, at a wet or rainy campsite, or during any outdoor expedition, it keeps you free of worry. But that’s not it, Tribit XSound is great in offering animmersive music experience with crisp mids, crystal highs, and rich bass, unlike any other Bluetooth speaker. With state-of-the-art dual 8W power drivers and bass radiators, it delivers flawless sound without any distortion even at the highest volume.
It has a premium Bluetooth 5.0 technology which effortlessly connects to all other Bluetooth-enabled devices up to 100ft range. To access virtual assistants like Google Assistant or Siri, all you need is to press and hold the multifunction button and it will connect it in a bit.
For me, battery life matters as I’m not very fond of charging devices every other hour and with its powerful lithium-ion battery, it claims to stretch over 24 hours without any pause at low to med volume but to be honest, I tried and it failed far before 24 hours. You may stretch it till 12 to 14 hours max and if you’re a loud sound lover, you can use it till 8 to 9 hours at full volume.

10. JBL Boombox – Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker
JBL Boombox has made it to my music gear love list. If you look at it closely, you can easily feel that the built structure is not just rugged but powerful to remain functional and effective in all weather conditions. So, whether it rains, snows, or have dust storm, this little beast not going anywhere. However, it is not as small as others so if you have weight or space constraints, this may hinder your decision. It is not something you can toss in your backpack or hang around with the straps. But if you’re a car camper, or have a great RV life, this one is for you.
Initially, I was a bit shaky but when I tried its sound quality, I took no longer in buying it for its monstrous sound output with its hard-hitting bass. The reason behind this is the incorporation of two JBL bass radiators and four active transducers. Trust me, if you’re a music freak, you can’t ignore it. With a long charging time of 6.5 hours, I was ambiguous about its performance time but it came as a shock that it stretched it to 24 hours without any miss. There was no distortion, sound loss, or volume compromise in the process. However, if the battery reaches below 20%, you can witness a low buzzing sound coming out of the speaker. I tried fixing it with the firmware upgrade but it didn’t go away so I believe keeping it charged is the only option to avoid that low buzzing sound. To charge this beast, you may need a portable battery pack camping.
One thing that I didn’t find very convenient is that there’s no equalizer or custom audio profiles to personalize the sound a little which generally comes with the size, price, or functionalities of any speaker. It seamlessly pairs up with the app for iOS and Android speeds up the setup, but that’s not necessary. There are buttons on the speaker to switch it to indoor or outdoor modes. You can also pair it up with other JBL speakers to call it on a stereo or party modes.
With IPX7, it can easily survive water splashes, spills, or submergence in the water for 30 mins. Let’s not forget that it comes equipped with a massive 20,000 mAh battery, a power adapter, 3.5mm Aux-In, two USB ports, and a micro-USB port for firmware upgrades. What more should one expect?
- Weight: 2.4 pounds.
- Dimensions: 20.55 x 9.53 x 13.39 inches.
- Average Battery Life: Up to 24 hours.
- Really loud and balanced sound.
- Water-resistant + splash-proof.
- 24-hour battery life.
- No audio cables included.
- Buzzing sound at low battery.
Key Features to Consider Before Buying a Bluetooth Speaker for Camping
I’m highlighting some of the most important aspects to look into a Bluetooth speaker before making any purchase.
- Frequency Bracket
Frequency response is a range of soundwaves, measured in hertz, for example, 50Hz to 20,000 Hz. The wider the range is, the better the performance of the speaker is. However, the frequency response of any speaker alone is not the only metric you can determine the quality of the sound. But it is a very important factor to check upon and see if it has a reasonable frequency bracket.
A driver is the heart of any speaker and having a decent size driver in a speaker is imperative to ensure the quality of the sound it produces. Most mid-sized portable Bluetooth speakers come with a full-range 40mm driver which is reasonable enough for a good sound experience, however, the placement of the driver matters the most. To displace sound synonymously, it has to be either placed upwards or facing downwards. If you are someone looking for a powerful music system in the background, you may have to ignore the ‘size’. Many good size Bluetooth speakers have a dual driver setup to offer louder, clearer, and crispier sound. However, since portable Bluetooth speakers are small, they don’t have a woofer within. Whereas it has passive radiators that vibrate to produce bass.
- Bluetooth Version
Most of the Bluetooth speakers come with version 4+ or version 5. It may not look like a big difference but it does have a huge impact on the appeal of the speaker. Version 4.2 can perform connectivity at about 30 meters maximum whereas version 5.0 can easily reach out at a whopping 120 meters. Version 5.0 is much faster with 2Mbps and is compatible with a variety of smart devices whereas version 4.1 or 4.2 maxes out at 1Mbps. It is also worth noting that most modern devices are compatible with version 5.0 and Bluetooth Speakers with version 5.0 can pair up to multiple devices at the same time, suitable for families or friends who share houses.
Electronics and water don’t go well together until and unless they are built with the waterproofing specifications. And when you look for a Bluetooth speaker that suits your outdoor expeditions, make sure it has a good IP rating. The waterproofing of a Bluetooth speaker is denoted by its IP rating. Speakers with IPX4 can tolerate a splash or a spill-friendly, ideal for picnics and kitchens. Whereas Bluetooth speakers with IPX7 rating can survive a heavy rainfall and few knocks too. So, if you’re looking for Bluetooth speakers that can survive a dip in the water too, select the product which has an IPX rating around IP67 or above.
- Smart Operation
Today, Bluetooth speakers are expected to be more than just a music streaming device. It should provide access to virtual assistants like Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa. Here, I don’t mean that you should drop a high-quality Bluetooth speaker if it doesn’t offer access to any of the assistants, however, most of the third-party Bluetooth speakers feature microphones for both hands-free calls and support of voice-activated virtual assistants. So, it’s better if you check and find the one that is multi-functional and fits well with your purpose.
When you’re focused on buying a Bluetooth speaker for camping, it is obvious that you’re looking for something handy, lightweight, and easy to carry. Fortunately, most of the Bluetooth speakers are not more than the size of soap, very tough on the outside and light on the whole. However, there are still many old-school, bulky Bluetooth speakers on the shelves at throwaway prices that you may find very lucrative but as much as you pay attention to the built-in features, functionalities, sound quality, etc. make sure you don’t overlook the size, weight and look of the product.
- Multi-room Functionality
Multi-room functionality is a new technology that enables a Bluetooth speaker to connect to more than one speaker to create a collective sound system in every room of the house. The best part is that it doesn’t require the internet so even if your bandwidth conks, you and the music keep going. Small budget Bluetooth speakers don’t support it yet but if you feel multi-room as your requirement, hop onto slightly expensive options to break a deal.
- aptX HD
If you love high-definition audio and follow the music with all its nitty-gritty aspects, it is integral for you to look for a Bluetooth speaker that supports aptX HD. It is the audio codec that offers 24-bit audio streaming via Bluetooth without any interruption or distortion. Today, the majority of the Bluetooth speakers support aptX which is more like a CD or DVD sound – 16-bit/44.1kHz. Very few of the Bluetooth speakers are audio-centered with aptX HD. Not all but many of the iOS and Android devices support aptX HD. Thus, to enjoy the pristine sound with friends and family, get an aptX HD enabled Bluetooth speaker.
Frequently Asked Questions
Many a time, we end up buying the wrong device just because we lack the right knowledge, requirements, or technical aspects of the gadget. Since I have been receiving dozens of questions regarding the best outdoor Bluetooth speakers, I thought of replying here in the thread below. I have picked some of the most common questions that come across to help campers, backpackers, and travelers select the best sounding Bluetooth speaker with the right features, pricing, and functionalities.
Portable Bluetooth Speakers are designed to stream music or listen to podcasts wherever you like. They come in with both configurations – mono and stereo and offer you the freedom to buy that suits your budget. For far-reaching, high quality, uninterrupted sound output, try your hands on high-fidelity stereo speakers with greater frequency bracket and higher IPX rating.
Speakers come in great variety, features, and sizes. However, good Bluetooth speakers for outdoors must have a few embedded features to cater to the outdoor environment like reasonable wireless frequency range, quick and extensive Bluetooth pairing efficiency, waterproofing, shock proofing, and portability. If you’re a party person who always looks for bass-enabled accurate audio reproduction with a surround sound system, I advise you to put in a little extra money and grab a high-definition portable Bluetooth speaker for the outdoors.
In an audio output, every device involved in the chain matters. Sometimes, Bluetooth does not have much impact on the sound quality, however, when wireless standards and codecs work with the low-built devices that are not designed to maintain quality, the sound output could vary and may not be of taste.
Most of the time, people are unable to gauge any difference however, if you monitor it closely, the AUX connection always has better sound quality as compared to the Bluetooth. Line-in connections like USB is even better in providing better sound than Bluetooth.
Yes! The reason is that WIFI streams uninterrupted lossless audio and offers a considerably larger bandwidth compared to Bluetooth. WIFI enables users to set up different audio zones that can be controlled by a single device.
If you want to stream music through two Bluetooth speakers, you can use a variety of applications like ‘Bluetooth Five’ to stream audio simultaneously to more than one device. However, not all Bluetooth speakers support this parallel streaming technology so make sure you dig into the details before making any purchase. Also, most of the Bluetooth Speakers have a user manual that explains how to pair two speakers to your device.
To wrap up my experiences and findings with the 10 best Bluetooth speakers for camping, I would say that most of them offer great looks, fair value for money, reasonable frequency ranges, incredible features, seamless connectivity, and good sound output. But you still have to pick the best amongst them and say it a deal. Here, I’m going to put forward my choices in terms of good, better, and best which you may differ. However, I would suggest you do some homework and background study to fully understand and buy that best suits your style, need, and budget. Let’s start with the good ones, I feel Anker SoundCore 2, Bose SoundLink Revolve, and OontZ Angle 3 are great in terms of battery life, pricing, looks, and overall convenience, whereas I feel they lack a bit in sound quality and performance in open or crowded environments.
When it comes to picking up the better ones, I feel JBL Flip 4, Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker II, and Bose SoundLink Micro are some of the top-performing Bluetooth speakers that I have used so far. They’re versatile, have impressive battery life, incredible sound quality, and great IPX ratings and I don’t have any reason to call it better and not best. But I believe my convenience, device compatibility, and pricing have made me think of marking them as better Bluetooth speakers on the market.
JBL Boombox, Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM, TREBLAB HD77, and Tribit XSound Go are at the top of my list. Efficient IPX ratings, long-lasting battery life, waterproofing, and a built-in microphone are just a few of the features. The best part is that there is no regret attached to purchasing these. They have always been great at sound in all weather conditions.
